Accommodation providers eye the Pink Pound as LGBT tourism spending to exceed USD$200 billion for the first time in 2014
For those providing accommodation for the LGBT community such Danny Silver, Founder and Owner of The Villages Group Rainbow in France, the outlook for 2014 is bright as tourism spending by this group is set to exceed USD$200 billion for the first time.
These latest findings from the world’s largest LGBT market research study LGBT2020 presented by Out Now revealed that of the top 20 global markets for LGBT tourism, the largest spenders were the USA (USD$56.5 billion) and Brazil (USD$25.3 billion) with USD$66.1 billion expected to be spent by Europeans.
In terms of hot destinations for the LGBT community to visit in the next 3 years (2012-2015), France was named as the number one most desired destination country by more than 6% of the total global tourism industry who identify as LGBT according to LGBT2020 research.
A response which Danny Silver, himself a resident in Paris, is not surprised by, he comments,
“France is the ultimate destination for the LGBT community. Having lived here for many years now I have seen the progress which has been made in transforming the nation into a LGBT-friendly destination; the legalization of gay marriage last year was a significant step in the right direction and with Paris hosting the Gay Games in 2018, I can only see LGBT tourism to France going one way – up!
“Indeed for older members of the LGBT community, often more concerned with cultural and safety issues in other destinations, France offers a truly welcoming atmosphere with numerous gay friendly restaurants, bars, beaches and accommodation choices such as our project, The Villages Group Rainbow located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of SW France.”
Much more than a gaycation however, The Villages Group Rainbow is going one step further by offering permanent accommodation for the LGBT community. Following the popularity of such resorts in the US, The Villages Group Rainbow will be the first active living resort in Europe for LGBT’s over 50 years old, allowing them to turn their travels into a more permanent holiday.
“Just as many members of the LGBT community prefer to travel together, so too do they enjoy living together, with like-minded people, which is why we created The Villages Group Rainbow. From the start this revolutionary concept for Europe has been well received with the local Mayor in full support and over XX% of the homes purchased by buyers from all over the world.”
The one level eco-friendly homes at The Villages GroupRainbow are available to purchase from as little as €236,000 with the site, situated on the banks of the UNESCO listed Canal du Midi, affording full amenities including tennis courts, indoor pool, Jacuzzis, saunas, gymnasium and great entertainment programmes. Owners will now also be able to explore the local area on complementary scooters!
