Tenerife tops the table as Brits can’t get enough of the Canaries

Spain
  • Canary Island visitors jump 11.2% in a year (ISTAC)
  • Jet2 and Norwegian announce new Tenerife routes
  • Hidden villages, mountains and pyramids all waiting to be discovered (Cheap Holidays Tenerife)

Newly released figures have revealed a jump of 11.2% in visitor numbers to the Canary Islands in 2016.

The most southerly region of Spain, the Canaries enjoy superb weather year-round, making them a popular destination in all seasons. Now, data from the Instituto Canario de Estadístca (ISTAC), has revealed that the islands’ combination of great weather, stunning beaches and relaxed lifestyle served to attract 14,981,113 visitors in 2016 – 1,679,862 more than the previous year.

Topping the table, with 5.7 million visitors, is Tenerife. With average temperatures ranging from 17°C in winter to 24°C in summer, and between six and ten hours of daily sunshine year-round, the island is something of a haven for families seeking guaranteed sunshine. Even the sea temperature obliges, ranging from an average of 19°C at its coldest (February and March) to 24°C in September and October. according to Holiday Weather.

Part of Tenerife’s attraction lies in its appeal to all ages. From the buzzing commercial scene and nightlife of the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, to the peace and beauty of the volcanic beaches and tranquil golf courses, the island’s mass appeal ensures a steady stream of visitors. In fact, Tenerife has become so popular that it attracted over 1 million more visitors than the second most popular Canary Island in 2016 (Gran Canaria, with 4,223,679 visitors).

ISTAC’s figures also reveal that it is UK travelers whose love for the Canaries burns brightest. More tourists travelled there from the UK in 2016 than from any other country, accounting for 4,892,535 arrivals by air in total. German visitors were the next most populous, at 3,020,296, while Spanish tourists accounted for 1,648,652 arrivals.

“Tenerife is one of those places that can’t help but charm. Many visitors are drawn here by the beaches, and it’s only once they arrive that they realise how much more the island has to offer. Taking a cable car up Mount Teide is an experience not to be missed, as are the Guimar Pyramids and the ‘hidden village’ of Masca. The sea pools in the lava flows at Garachico are also an absolute must. Many visitors find that they are soon yearning to come back, hence the booming tourism figures!”

Jodi Beard, Marketing Director, Cheap-Holidays-Tenerife.com.

Extended flight schedules for summer 2017 indicate that airlines are expecting this year to be another strong one for the Canary Islands. Jet2 has announced additional flights to Tenerife as part of its summer schedule, while Norwegian has just proposed a new short-haul route from Bilbao to Tenerife twice weekly from mid-April.

Half-term holiday hotspot for the whole family – minus the eye-watering price tag!

Half-term holiday hotspot for the whole family – minus the eye-watering price tag!

Spain
  • London to Tenerife flight costs up by 581% for half-term (FairFX)
  • Average holidaymaker can save £146 by booking accommodation through Cheap-Holidays-Tenerife.com
  • Stunning beaches and family-friendly restaurants all perfect for those on a budget

Recent figures from FairFX have shown that return flights from London Gatwick to holiday hotspot Tenerife during half-term are 581% more expensive than they would be two weeks earlier, at £293 during half-term versus £42 beforehand.

However, with some savvy choices around accommodation, restaurants and other activities, families don’t need to rule out their break in the Tenerife sunshine just yet.

Jodi Beard, Marketing Director of holiday planning specialists Cheap-Holidays-Tenerife.com, is an expert in enabling families to enjoy the popular southern part of the island without the eye-watering price tags. She explains,

“Tenerife is an incredibly beautiful island, which offers plenty of activities for the whole family. Just because flight prices go up during half-term week you shouldn’t rule it out as a destination. Families who think ahead about where to dine and which activities they want to participate in can often make significant savings, as well as getting a more authentic Tenerife experience.”

Jodi thoroughly recommends exploring further afield as one way to keep costs down. Resort shops, bars and restaurants can be pricey and there are some superb venues just waiting to be discovered by those who care to look.

Authentic restaurant Rincon del Pollo de Adeje in Los Cristianos is a great choice for a family visit and certainly won’t break the bank. The Safari Centre at Playa de las Americas is also a good bet for those with little ones in tow.

The traditional tapas and seafood restaurants in La Caleta are well worth a visit and are a great choice for couples and those with older children who are looking to enjoy a tapas tour on a budget that lasts well into the evening.

When it comes to entertainment, Carnival St Cruz in February is a lively event that the whole family can enjoy, with music and laughter high on the agenda. The event spans several weeks, from late January to late February, with tickets to different days costing different amounts. Families on a budget will be pleased to learn that ticket prices for some events cost as little as €1.

Tenerife is of course famous for its watersports, with parascending a particularly popular option in recent years. However, the miles of stunning coastline also offer some excellent swimming conditions, meaning that visitors need little more than a bathing suit and a bottle of sun-cream in order to enjoy themselves thoroughly.

Fañabe, Las Vistas and La Teresitas are the beaches that the Cheap-Holidays-Tenerife.com team particularly recommends. Other essential spots to visit include Puerto de la Cruz, Mount Teide and Los Gigantes, all of which can be enjoyed on a shoestring.

For shoppers, the markets at Fañabe on Saturdays and Thursdays, and at Los Cristianos on Sundays, are a lovely way to explore the tastes of Tenerife without handing over too many euros.

When it comes to accommodation, Cheap-Holidays-Tenerife.com has some excellent options available, with holidaymakers able to choose anything from self-catering to half board, depending on their whims and budgets.

The company promises to beat the price of any other genuine accommodation-only seven-night holiday by a minimum of £100, with the average customer saving £146 – perfect for families facing costly half-term flight prices.

One final tip for those looking to enjoy Tenerife without breaking the bank is to book items such as car hire and airport transfers through a company like JiveHippo.travel, which offers great travel experiences at discounted rates. Those kind of savings quickly add up and can make all the difference when it comes to having spending money left over for the holiday. To get the best possible prices become a Jive Hippo Member, visit www.JiveHippo.club for more information on how.

“Tenerife doesn’t have to cost the earth,” concludes Cheap-Holiday-Tenerife’s Jodi Beard. “If you’re on a budget and in need of some winter sun this half-term, a little careful planning can go a long way towards getting you the holiday you deserve!”

Winter round-up: the 2017 Where To… list

Winter round-up: the 2017 Where To… list

World , , , , ,
  • The best locations for spending your money in 2017
  • Buy a second home in Spain, invest in a hotel in North Wales and holiday in Tenerife
  • Stick with the UK for buy-to-let investment and play the stock market from the comfort of your bed

With one eye on the future and one on the hottest property and location trends of 2016, it’s time to look at the best places to spend your money in 2017. The 2017 Where To… list covers everything from holidays and holiday homes, to property investments and playing the stock market.

Where To… Buy a second home

When it comes to buying a second home, Spain is the obvious choice for many. Post-Brexit vote reports are that property sales and enquiries from British buyers have ramped up noticeably. Leading Spanish property portal Kyero.com has reported record enquiry numbers since the referendum. Head of Research Richard Speigal comments,

“Spain offers a great climate, fabulous food and excellent value for money. Brexit doesn’t seem to have deterred British buyers in the slightest. In fact, it seems to have spurred many on to purchase their dream second home sooner rather than later.”

The golf courses and beaches of the Costa del Sol are ideal for those looking for a second home in Spain. Taylor Wimpey España is offering spacious apartments and townhouses at Horizon Golf near Mijas from €270,000+VAT.

Where To… Invest in a hotel

An up-and-coming asset class, hotel investment looks set to take off in a big way in the UK over the next couple of years. Jean Liggett, pioneering CEO of Properties of the World, comments,

“Hotel investment offers excellent returns and benefits from not being subject to stamp duty. It’s ideal for property investors who are looking to get more for their money.”

Those investing in Caer Rhun Hall Hotel in Conwy, North Wales (rooms available from £75,000), can look forward to returns of circa 10% per annum, 125% developer optional buy-back and two weeks’ personal usage of their hotel room per year.

Where to…Holiday over the winter months

When it comes to winter sunshine, Tenerife is one of the top short-haul destinations for those travelling from the UK. Idyllic beaches with a sea temperature of 21°C and an average December temperature of 17°C, combined with excellent value for money make this an enticing destination. There’s plenty on offer to entertain the whole family all year round, and some outstanding value hotel rooms available over the winter months.

Cheap Holidays Tenerife has rooms available from as little as £93 per night for those looking to stock up on vitamin D before Christmas and from just £98 per night for holidaymakers planning a break in the New Year.

Where To… Invest in a buy-to-let property

Despite the increase to stamp duty on second homes earlier this year, the UK’s buy-to-let market is still faring well. There are plenty of cities around the UK that offer great returns and the potential for capital growth. One of the most exciting for 2017 is Belfast.

Property prices in Northern Ireland remain some 40% below their 2007 peak, but they’re rising fast. Buy-to-let investors with an eye on capital gains as well as healthy yields are examining the market there closely. With Belfast accounting for 43% of Northern Ireland’s total rental transactions, it is the natural choice for those looking to invest in buy-to-let.

The Frontiers’ Collection at The Sandford, located in Belfast’s thriving Titanic Quarter and available through Property Frontiers, offers one bedroom apartments from £114,750 and two bedroom homes from £141,750.

Over in England it is Manchester that is turning heads as a buy-to-let destination. Surrenden Invest is supporting would-be landlords to avoid paying the proposed ‘Green Tax’ by offering the low-carbon technology Artillery House for investment. The contemporary development enjoys a prime city centre location in Manchester’s ‘Golden Triangle’ and will be one of the city’s most energy efficient buildings. The 12 high end, boutique apartments are available for investment from £120,000.

Where To… Play the stock market

If stocks and shares appeal more than bricks and mortar, 2017 could be the perfect time to try out your skills as a trader. easyMarkets is on a mission to democratise trading, making it possible for anyone with an interest in the markets to dabble from the comfort of their own home. Not only do they offer learning resources and regular insights for those who are new to trading, but their innovative dealCancellation product means that losing trades can be cancelled within 60 minutes of making them – perfect for nervous newbies!

August the most popular month to start a holiday home search reveals portal

August the most popular month to start a holiday home search reveals portal

Portugal Spain , , ,

For families with school-age children, August is the last chance to escape the daily grind and head off into Europe to catch some summer sun. It’s a month for long, dreamy days spent on the beach, fabulous al fresco meals with the sound of the sea in the background and catching up on everything from the latest bestselling novel to some much-needed sleep.

August is also the month to start turning those ‘wouldn’t it be nice to own a second home here’ dreams into reality, according to Spanish property portal Kyero.

A study of the company’s data from 2010 to 2015 has found that August is the most popular month for buyers to start searching for their ideal holiday home. Many buyers are inspired by their summer holidays and look to recreate their fabulous time in the sun through the purchase of a second home in or near to the place they stayed.

For holidaymakers in Spain, that often means the Alicante region, where the 200 km Costa Blanca coastline offers white sands, lively cities and balmy sea breezes. August is the hottest month of the year in Alicante, with an average temperature of 26°C, although heatwaves often push the mercury above 40°C. The heat is moderated by those refreshing sea breezes, which is just as well as there’s only one rainy day in August on average, according to Holiday Weather.

August is the best month to take to the water in Alicante, with an average sea temperature of 26°C making swimming and splashing around in the shallows an enjoyable experience for the whole family. For those who can’t bear to leave the beach behind when their holiday ends, developer Taylor Wimpey España is offering south-facing, frontline apartments at Panorama Mar in Punta Prima, Torrevieja. With generous terraces and magnificent sea views, the apartments blend beautiful, spacious interiors with communal features such as three on-site swimming pools, children’s playground and landscaped gardens.

The Canary Islands are also an excellent choice for August holidaymakers looking to squeeze the last out of the summer break. Tenerife, the largest of the Canaries, enjoys an average temperature of 24°C, a sea temperature of 23°C and an average of just one day of rain during the month. An average of nine hours of solid sunshine per day is enough to top up anyone’s vitamin D levels in advance of autumn’s arrival.

Jodi Beard, Marketing Director of holiday planning specialists Cheap-Holidays-Tenerife.com, which offer discounted flights to and holiday accommodation in the popular southern area of the island comments,

“August is the ideal month to visit Tenerife. It’s the hottest time of year on the island and the relaxed atmosphere is perfect for family breaks. A lot of people think of Tenerife and picture beautiful beaches. Of course it does have those – and in abundance – but there’s also a whole host of activities there that will appeal to holidaymakers of all ages. You can go quad biking around Teide National Park, scale a mountain to watch the sun set and the stars come out and enjoy everything from the zoo to the water park. And of course August is the perfect month for enjoying the great outdoors to the max by trying your hand at a water sport – there are plenty on offer all over the island.”

Chris White, Founding Director of boutique estate agency Ideal Homes Portugal, believes that Portugal in August also offers an exciting experience for the whole family. The Algarve coastline is packed with water parks, golf courses and stunning beaches, offering enough variety to keep visitors of all ages happily occupied. With an average of zero days of rain in August, according to Holiday Weather, glorious sunshine is all but guaranteed. The region enjoys 12 hours of sunshine per day during August, along with an average temperature of 24°C, which seasonal heatwaves often drive up to between 35°C and 40°C. The sea, at 21°C, is a welcome source of relief from the heat, as are the refreshing breezes that roll off it at seafront resorts. White comments,

“The Algarve is one of the best spots in Europe for some summer sunshine and we find that many of those who visit are so charmed by their experience of Portugal that they come back year after year. From apartments in coastal towns and villages to villas with pools across the Algarve, the region offers plenty of property to suit buyers looking to pick up a second home in the sunshine that they can retreat to whenever they want a break. The fact that the Algarve is known to be the cheapest holiday destination in Europe is an added bonus!”

Going for gold: Take ‘home’ the medals with these pads with top-class sporting facilities

Going for gold: Take ‘home’ the medals with these pads with top-class sporting facilities

Portugal Spain United Kingdom , , ,
  • Train like Adam Peaty in Tenerife Top Training’s Olympic sized swimming pool
  • Serve like Olympic flag-bearer Andy Murray in stunning Portuguese villa with tennis court
  • Golf’s return as an Olympic sport initiates golfing villas as the fitting investment
  • Train like the Brazilians with your own sand beach volleyball court

With the Summer Olympic Games in Rio now in full swing, it is inevitable that many of us have caught the fitness bug. The sporting stars of Team GB have already motivated us to get involved but to follow in their footsteps and become the next gold medalist it is important to have top class facilities close-by both at home and away.

The first success story for Team GB in Rio 2016 was in the pool with Adam Peaty breaking the world record to win gold in the 100m breaststroke. Those inspired to emulate the 21-year old’s achievements can combine training with this year’s summer holiday as T3, Tenerife Top Training, boasts an Olympic-sized swimming pool. Jodi Beard, Marketing Manager of Cheap Holidays Tenerife, comments,

“Many professional athletes travel to Tenerife for altitude training due to the elevation and heat of the El Teide volcano. Tenerife’s agreeable year round climate adds to its appeal and T3 provide optimal training camps for those wanting to test their abilities in an Olympic-sized swimming pool.”

Having led his country out at the Opening Ceremony as flag-bearer, Andy Murray is keen to impress after his remarkable win at Wimbledon earlier this summer. As the first tennis player to be chosen it’s clear that the sport’s popularity is rising and Ideal Homes Portugal have just the property for an avid player.

One immaculate villa located in the beautiful hillsides beside Loulé has countryside views down to the coast and the all-important picturesque tennis court to perfect your serves in the sunshine.  Only a 15-minute drive from the golden beaches, golf courses and restaurants of the central Algarve, this property is available at €1,750,000. Other facilities include terraces with a private pool, double garage, impressive driveway with gated entrance and an outside kitchen. The four large double en-suite bedrooms, all with access to the garden or a terrace and basement activities such as a games room and a cinema means that you can watch the Olympics and play with your teammates all in one luxurious property.

Golf is another key discipline to watch this year as it has been classed as an Olympic sport for the first time in 112 years. Known as the ‘Costa del Golf’, Spain’s southern coast is the ideal location for those looking to perfect their swing. Situated in the beautiful Valley of Mijas, Horizon Golf is Taylor Wimpey España‘s second development at La Cala Resort within the complex’s famous Campo Asia golf course.

From just €267,000 +VAT for an apartment and €397,000 +VAT for a penthouse, residents of these exclusive properties will enjoy breathtaking view of the prestigious golf course and the Costa del Sol’s sun kissed coastline, spacious terraces perfect for al fresco dining, and the convenience of a private garage space.  All properties benefit from 24-hour security, communal gardens and swimming pool, as well as three 18-hole golf courses, hydrotherapy centre and spa, golf school (La Cala Golf Academy) and an array of sports facilities all close by including two running circuits and specialised trainers on hand to improve technique. What more could a future Olympic champion need?

As the Paralympians wait for their turn on the world stage, Team GB weightlifter Zoe Newson is hopeful for a medal in Rio 2016. Having powerlifted since the tender age of 14, Zoe is inspiring the rest of us to get to the gym from an early age and what better way to continuing training through university by choosing accommodation with a private onsite gym? At Collegiate AC’s 333 Bath Street site in Glasgow, there are not only deceptively spacious premium apartments but also access to a fully equipped private gym exclusively for residents. Luxury student living like this is available from just £179 per week so swap that famous ‘fresher’s stone’ weight gain for the body of an Olympian this academic year.

Finally, to celebrate the Olympics being held in Rio, the iconic Brazilian sport of beach volleyball is a must to try. Brazil are definitely the ones to watch having won more medals in the sport than any other country since it was first introduced in 1996 and Ideal Homes Portugal has the perfect luxury pad for you to practice in time for the next Olympics. Featuring a sunken, sand volleyball court as well as a heated infinity pool, poolside games / TV room and mini gym, this 5 bedroom, 7 bath villa is a true gold medal winner!

Priced at €3,249,950, this luxury villa is located in a privileged location overlooking the 10th fairway of the Vale do Lobo golf course, perfect for a sporting getaway. The gardens are landscaped with paths throughout for easy access and to enjoy the spectacular views.

If our Team GB stars haven’t inspired you enough to get active, these stunning properties with top-class facilities certainly will.

No pain no gain: Olympic spirit sees tourists training in Tenerife

No pain no gain: Olympic spirit sees tourists training in Tenerife

United Kingdom
  • Team GB wins Olympic gold, silver and bronze in Rio
  • British Olympic 400m hurdler and British Paralympic swimmer train in Tenerife
  • Rise in British enquiries about sporting holidays in Tenerife (cheap-holidays-tenerife.com)

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games are in full swing and fans are feeling sporty. Rio 2016 will see competition across 42 sporting disciplines including golf, returning after a 112-year absence and new additions of men’s and women’s’ rugby sevens.

These two weeks are the culmination of years of training and hard work by the competitors with Tenerife, the largest of the Spanish Canary Islands, playing training host to countless Olympic athletes from all over the world.

British Olympic 400m hurdler Eilidh Doyle and British Paralympic swimmer Rebecca Redfern have both spent time training on the island this year in preparation for the Games.

With Britain already picking up Gold and Silver in swimming in the first few days and with the Olympics centre of attention, Brits are looking to get inspired and increase their own fitness and wellbeing through activities such as sporting holidays.

Jodi Beard, Marketing Director of holiday planning specialists Cheap Holidays Tenerife comments,

“We have noticed a rise in enquiries for sporting holidays in the lead up to Rio 2016. Tenerife has always been a popular training ground for athletes of all levels and it’s common for tourists to book holidays planned around exercise and training camps.

“Swimming, cycling and overall fitness tend to be the most popular with our Olympic-sized pool and the beautiful Mt Teide providing the perfect training ground for athletes competing in events such as the Olympics, the Tour de France and triathlons.”

The majority of hotels in Tenerife offer swimming facilities as well as being located on the doorstep of award-winning beaches. Hotel Isabel in Costa Adeje for example boasts two swimming pool facilities as well as the beautiful Fañabé beach just a short 600 metre stroll away. With exercise and wellbeing in mind, Hotel Isabel also includes a gymnasium, ping-pong table and a wellness centre. Accommodation at the stunning four-star resort starts from £534.90 for a seven-night break where tourists can keep active as well as enjoy the beauty of the island.

The return of golf to the Olympics this year after a 112-year hiatus is also creating quite a buzz. Those who have never considered the sport before are suddenly taking a real interest. Tenerife is home to nine courses, all with their own individual style and terrain, backed by breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, and stunning mountain ranges.

A popular hotel for tourists planning a golf holiday is Abama Golf & Spa Resort. The five-star luxury cliff top hotel offers an on-site championship golf course created by Dave Thomas, designer of Ryder Cup and European Tour venues. Tenerife top choice this summer with Brit holiday arrivals up 20%

Tenerife top choice this summer with Brit holiday arrivals up 20%

Spain
  • British visitors to Tenerife up 20% January – May 2016 (Tenerife Tourism Corporation)
  • Tenerife residents offering a “big warm hug” to British tourists (Tenerife Tourism Corporation)
  • Brits saving a minimum of £100 on holidays to Tenerife (cheap-holidays-tenerife.com)

Boasting 11 hours of sunshine a day, breathtaking natural beauty and some of the world’s warmest waters, it is no wonder that Brits are heading back to their favourite Canary Island for this summer’s getaway.

Latest figures from the Tenerife Tourism Corporation state that British tourism to Tenerife has already jumped an astonishing 20% between January and May this year with a whopping 800,000 Brits visiting the popular holiday destination. In 2015 the island saw over 1.7 million British arrivals with the UK accounting for 34% of the island’s total tourist arrivals.

In response to these latest figures, Tenerife Tourism Corporation travel industry and promotion director, Pia Louw, comments,

“We are very encouraged to see continued growth from the UK market year on year, with average growth of 3.5% for the last five years. The latest figures for the first months of 2016 are also very encouraging and demonstrate that our beloved British visitors recognise that we have so much to offer – from must-visit attractions such as the UNESCO-listed Teide National Park to the latest products including stargazing, sports and luxury tourism.”

The UK’s recent decision to leave the EU has however caused some uncertainty for holidaymakers who are concerned about their travel expenses post the Brexit vote.

In response to Brits’ concerns, the Tenerife Tourism Corporation has just launched #bigwarmhugtravel, a new campaign reassuring the UK that the people of Tenerife are behind Brits regardless of their status in Europe.

The campaign sees Tenerife residents posting images of themselves on social media giving British holidaymakers a “big warm hug” in order to spread their love and support of the island’s largest source market.

Director of Tourism in Tenerife, Alberto Bernabé comments,

“With so many turbulent times in the world and political uncertainty in the UK at the moment, we hope this campaign will show the British people that we are with them no matter what.”

Jodi Beard, herself a Tenerife resident as well as Marketing Director of ATOL and ABTA protected holiday planning specialists, Cheap-Holidays-Tenerife.com, which offer discounted flights to Tenerife and holiday accommodation in the popular southern area of the island is confident that the island will continue to attract British tourists this year. She comments,

“Tenerife is home to award winning beaches, delicious restaurants, friendly and welcoming people as well as the magnificent Mt Teide that recently played host to location scouts for the HBO hit series Game of Thrones. All of these attractions are what bring Brits to Tenerife. It’s the place to be this summer and we are seeing a steady flow of holiday enquiries which we expect will continue throughout the season.”

Record number of Blue Flags fly high across Spain and Portugal this summer

Record number of Blue Flags fly high across Spain and Portugal this summer

Portugal Spain , ,
  • Spain retains top spot in this year’s Blue Flag Awards
  • Tenerife attracts beachgoers with impressive 15 Blue Flags
  • Algarve’s 88 Blue Flags appeal to second home owners this summer

With the results of this year’s Blue Flag awards hot off the press, Spain and Portugal’s coastlines are looking even more inviting to those wishing to dip their toes into clean waters.

The highly sought-after accolades are awarded annually by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) across almost 50 countries worldwide. Blue Flag beaches are judged on four different categories: water quality, safety and services, environmental management, and environmental education and information.

Attaining Blue Flag status is seen as the gold standard for beaches and is widely recognised as an indication of the high environmental and quality standards of the beaches, marinas and sustainable boating tourism operators. Blue Flags are only awarded to the world’s cleanest, most pristine beaches.

With a world record 577 Blue Flag’s awarded to Spanish beaches last year (beating their own record of 573 in 2014), it is without a doubt that the Mediterranean country is host to the world’s most pristine beaches. 2016 has proved no different with Spain retaining its top spot adding another 9 Blue Flag beaches to its ever-growing roster.

Leading Spanish homebuilder, Taylor Wimpey España are delighted with the results and have witnessed a surge of interest in seafront properties accompanying the Blue Flag announcement.

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey España comments,

“We were very excited to hear that Spain has maintained its beach rankings as the best in the world. With the gorgeous Calpe, Alfás del Pi, El Campello and San Juan beaches keeping their Blue Flag status for the past 30 years, it was no surprise to us that the demand for beachfront properties have skyrocketed.”

With one in five Spanish beaches flying a Blue Flag this year, the demand for beachfront properties are on the rise. Situated on the beautiful Punta Prima beach near Blue Flag holder Los Naufragos on the Costa Blanca, Panorama Mar is an exciting new seafront development. The residential complex offers stylish two and three bedroom apartments all with two bathrooms, air conditioning, underfloor heating as well as an underground car parking space. The apartments have been designed for comfort and convenience and boast three swimming pools including a luxurious infinity pool and relaxing Jacuzzi as well as a paddling pool and playground for children. Prices start from just €234,000 with all apartments in the first phase south facing with picturesque terraces and breath-taking sea views.

Indeed Spain’s perennially-popular Costa Blanca is lined with Blue Flags. Close to Blue Flag beach Ciutat, the brand new La Vila Paradís apartments and townhouses enjoy a stunning location. Altet International Airport (Alicante) is just 30 minutes away and the port and seaside promenade of the traditional fishing town is welcoming with its own special charm. Situated on the beachfront with direct access to Paraíso beach, La Vila Paradis boasts a pool, private parking and beautiful communal gardens. A variety of 2 and 3 bedroom apartments are available, the ground floor of which have private gardens, as well as 3 bedroom townhouses, all with wonderful views. The penthouses include basement parking and storage. Properties are priced from €248,000.

Spain’s Canary Islands have also had great success in the Blue Flag awards accepting 66 Blue Flags with Tenerife receiving an impressive 15 Flags, an increase of 4 since 2015.

Jodi Beard, Marketing Director of holiday planning specialists Cheap Holidays Tenerife, which offer discounted flights to and holiday accommodation in the popular southern area of Tenerife comments on the impressive results,

“We are delighted with the recent Blue Flag results. The exquisite Los Cristianos and Las Vistas beaches in the Arona municipality are proud Flag holders this year and we are expecting their new status to attract more beachgoers this summer. With the already popular Troya beaches flying Blue Flags as well as Torviscas, Fañabe, and El Duque, we would expect an increase in the island’s popularity this year as a prime beach holiday destination.”

Also famous for its exquisite Blue Flag beaches is the esteemed Algarve region in southern Portugal which has been awarded 88 Blue Flags this year, an increase of 3 since 2015. The new Flags were awarded to Armona-Ria in Olhão, Rocha Baixinha in Albufeira and Amoreira Mar in Aljezur.

Representing around 45% of Portugal’s tourism earnings, the Algarve is a beloved beach holiday destination that appeals to many second-home buyers and the recent Blue Flag awards are set to attract further investments this summer.

Chris White, Founding Director of Algarve-based boutique agency Ideal Homes Portugal comments,

“These results are a cause for celebration! It’s wonderful to see so many beautiful beaches flying Blue Flags in the Algarve and with summer around the corner, we expect an increase in interest in the region from holidaymakers and second-home buyers alike.”

With beachfront properties highly desirable, those on or near beaches with Blue Flag status are in even higher demand. Located in the charming Olhão region on the Fuzeta seafront, moments from this year’s Blue Flag beach winner Armona-Ria, Del Mar Village is offering a magnificent luxury two-bedroom apartment. Comprised of 63 fully equipped apartments, and available through Ideal Homes Portugal, Del Mar Village is a unique space that provides all that is needed for a modern lifestyle. Facilities include swimming pools for both adults and children, private gardens, large garages for vehicles and equipment as well as balconies with exquisite sea views. Del Mar village also provides a video entry system and security alarm system for added peace of mind. This stunning apartment starts from €680,000.

The popular area of Albufeira is also home to a variety of beautiful second homes. Just 5 minutes’ drive away from pristine beaches, including Blue Flag beach award winner Rocha Baixinha, is a spacious four-bedroom villa in a peaceful and relaxing location. Perfect as a second home investment, the villa is comprised of four bedrooms, four bathrooms and outside swimming pool, as well as covered dining and barbecue area, tennis court and double garage from €449,000. With the greatest amount of sunshine in Europe it is clear why Algarve has become such a popular place to relocate.

Tenerife’s beaches flagged as cleanest in Canaries

Tenerife’s beaches flagged as cleanest in Canaries

Spain
  • 2016 Blue Flag Awards announced 25th May
  • Tenerife awarded 15 Blue Flag beaches
  • Cheap Holidays Tenerife offer discounted beach holidays this summer

It’s that time of year again, with the annual Blue Flag Awards being announced this Wednesday.

Hot off the press, the awards for the Canary Islands have been pre-released with Tenerife achieving an impressive 15 Blue Flags for its beaches, an increase of 4 since 2015.

Of the other Canary Islands Gran Canaria was awarded 12, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote 6, La Palma 5, and 1 for La Gomera, making Tenerife the most awarded of any Canary Island.

Jodi Beard, Marketing Director of holiday planning specialists Cheap-Holidays-Tenerife.com, which offer discounted flights to and holiday accommodation in the popular southern area of the island comments,

“We couldn’t be happier with these results! Two of my favourite beaches, Las Vistas and Los Cristianos on the popular southern area of the island, have been awarded Blue Flags this year and all of us at Cheap Holidays Tenerife are very proud. It’s great to see a beach that I visit each weekend awarded a Blue Flag, it confirms to me that Tenerife has the best beaches in the Canaries”

Other Blue Flags awarded in Tenerife include Playa La Arena in Santiago del Teide which has retained Blue Flag Status for nearly 30 years and the popular Troya (I and II), Torviscas, El Duque and Fañabé in the much loved Adeje municipality.

The Blue Flag awards are announced each year worldwide by the Foundation for Environmental Education across almost 50 countries. Blue Flag beaches are judged on four different categories: water quality, safety and services, environmental management, and environmental education and information. Attaining Blue Flag status is seen as the gold standard for beaches and is a highly sought-after accolade.

With more Blue Flag beaches this year than anywhere else in the Canary Islands, Tenerife is set to become an even more popular destination for beach holidaymakers this summer.

Jodi comments,

“Last year we saw an influx of British tourists to Tenerife, in particular after the Blue Flag awards were announced. With an additional four beaches awarded Blue Flag status this year we would expect a further increase in the island’s popularity as a prime beach holiday destination for summer 2016.”

Indeed in an attempt to meet the growing demand for wider and more frequent access to the Canary Isle, a number of airlines have launched new routes from the UK. Norwegian Airlines will fly a charter route from Cardiff to Tenerife South until September 27th 2016 on behalf of Thomson and First Choice, Ryanair’s winter schedule will see weekly flights to Tenerife South from Belfast, Bournemouth and Newcastle and in summer 2017, Thomson and First Choice will be introducing weekly flights from Humberside and Liverpool.

With most of these new routes being operated by budget airlines, it’s clear that affordable holidays remain a priority for British travelers with Cheap Holidays Tenerife providing an affordable way to holiday in Tenerife, promising to beat the price of any other genuine accommodation-only seven-night holiday by a minimum of £100.
